Your First Visit Plan to spend about an hour or so at your first appointment. This comprehensive visit will include a discussion with Dr. Ellis about your health, oral health, and concerns. She’ll want to know if you have pain or immediate problems to address, and the two of you will also talk about long-term oral health.
During your exam, we’ll capture full-mouth X-rays and intraoral photographs. Dr. Ellis will examine your teeth, gums, jaw joints, and occlusion (how upper and lower teeth fit together). If you have cosmetic concerns, let the dentist know during your exam. She’ll review her findings with you, showing you the X-rays and intraoral images. In some cases, we show patients CAESY videos that describe procedures, so you’ll know exactly what Dr. Ellis’ proposed treatment plan entails. Then, together, you and she can determine the best course of action for now and in the future.
After your exam, you will probably meet with our hygienist for a dental cleaning. She’ll record information about your oral health and gum tissue, then remove plaque, tartar, and decaying food particles from your teeth. The hygienist can also provide instruction on homecare, showing you effective ways to brush and floss your teeth. If you have questions about which products to use at home, please ask. Our goal is your long-term oral health and a smile that supports high quality of life.
