Receding Gums Treatment
Gum, or periodontal, disease is often the cause of receding gums. When gum tissue becomes infected, it can pull away and recede from the teeth, leaving them vulnerable. If you have receding, bleeding or swollen gums, you may have gingivitis or gum disease. To protect your teeth and overall health, Smile Design Studios offers treatment for receding gums and periodontal disease.
Infected gums are caused by a bacterial infection. When tartar buildup occurs, it can hide bacteria and irritate the gums. The tissue around teeth can become swollen, tender and bleed easily, and it may also begin to recede away from the teeth. This can leave deep pockets around the teeth that lead to more infection and gum tissue damage. Eventually, this can cause bone loss in the jaw, and teeth can be lost.
Bleeding and Swollen Gums Relief
If you have receding, bleeding or swollen gums, periodontal disease treatment may be needed to give you relief. In the early stages, gum disease can be treated with deep cleanings that remove tartar and bacteria from below the gum line. If you have gum disease that has damaged gum tissue, you may need to have tissue removed to help the gums heal. This can be done with laser therapy.
In periodontal laser therapy, we use a dental laser to access and remove the inflamed gum tissue from around the root of the tooth. When the infected tissue is removed and the root is exposed, the root scaling begins. This involves scraping off the calculus and plaque built up below the gumline and around the root. Our dentist then smooths the root with instruments to remove any rough spots that might attract bacteria and cause future infections. The area between the gum and the root can then regenerate during the healing process.
